One of the things that I've always heard him doing is adding in notes that go outside of the scales key signature. When this happens, he doesn't sound like a jazz musician. There is a slight hint of Blues to it, but he seems to do this by, "Stealth." I never hear it coming, and sometimes barely notice it after he's gone onto another lick or riff. Can you make a video on this style?Jorma -- EnglandA: Playing notes in and around chord changes where we have outside tones arrive and depart quickly, isn't limited to jazz. In a lot of the; classic rock, blues, soul music and country, we encounter musical phrases that make the lead lines hipper sounding and add more color to our phrasing. By adding in a few, "Stealth," chromatic tones around our common seven-tone scales we achieve a unique sound. In this video we'll spend the majority of the lesson discussing common tones you can experiment with and I will be demonstrating the effects with a number of guitar licks.
