I hope you can cover this scales construction and harmony. I'd like to be able to write a song with it because Joe Satriani uses it. Thanks for your lessons.Rich -- London, EnglandA: This scale is actually a mode of the Melodic Minor scale. And, it also has quite a few names that it will go by as well. When I first learned it, I was a student at the Musicians Institute (G.I.T.) and we were shown it as the Mixolydian b6. Other names for it are the; Hindu scale, Mixolydian b13, and it is also sometimes called the Aeolian #3rd. As we've done in past video lessons with many of the other scales we've examined, I begin with a breakdown of the essential theory involved with this very cool mode built off of the 5th degree of the Ascending Melodic Minor scale. Watch the video for all of the details and visit my BlogSite for the handout and an MP3 jamtrack.
