My favorite styles of music are Soul R&B and Funk. The chords used in these styles seem to contain a lot of linear moving notes to them. Could you make a lesson on how chord progressions can use notes that move linear? This chord movement idea connects chords chromatically and by using scale tones. Could you help me with both?Peter - Neptune, NJ. USA A: Chord sequences can sound very linear when there are moving notes within them. This is the result of embedded moving lines between the chord tones found at the; upper register, middle register, or the lower register of the chords within progressions. Often called, "Voice Leading," this effect may also occur across all parts of the chord harmony. When it moves both ascending and descending, we could also refer to this as, "Line-Dependent Chord Tone Patterns." In this lesson, I'll break down some of the common movements found for all musical styles. I will also demonstrate how intervals can move across different sections of a chord harmony, both in a chromatic manner, as well as, using scale tones.---ANDREW WASSON - Personal Website:http://www.andrewwasson.com(weekly postings - w/FREE Guitar Handouts)Visit our Creative Guitar Studio Zazzle page:http://www.zazzle.com/creativeguitarstudioOFFICIAL Creative Guitar Studio Products Website:http://www.creativeguitarstudio.com/MUSIC: Listen to some of my songs.http://www.andrewwasson.com/audio.php
