【爵士課堂】樂理:wtb.mjt10 - 現代爵士 Time, No Changes

简介

wtb.mjt10 - Modern Jazz - Time, No Changes This Jazz Piano Tutorial is about Time, No Changes. Traditional Jazz songs follow 'Head-Solo-Head' overall structure. By the 1960’s, this formula had gotten a bit boring, dry and expected, so Jazz musicians started experimenting with different ways of structuring the overall performance of a song. One of the ideas used by Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet was to alter the chord progression during the solo So play: Head-Modified Solo-Head One of the ways this was done was with a concept called 'Time, No Changes.' The concept is actually pretty self-explanatory. You keep the time, but disregard the chord changes. This was done over a solo section. Still play the Head/Melody – but then disregard the chords completely during the Solo, while still keeping the meter and the beat/tempo going. This was a direct response to Free Jazz, where Ornette Coleman completely discarded chord to allow for completely free improvisation using all 12 notes, without having to worry about an underlying harmonic structure or chord progression. Time, No Changes involved: - No piano comping/chords even during the piano solo (so just play single lines) - Free walking bass line that kept the time and meter but didn’t adhere to written out chord progression So in a sense this was Free Jazz-lite.
