Schrei!专辑介绍

by Dave Sleger

Unable to benefit from studio wizardry and overdubs, this live recording is predominantly a heavy metal offering from the German band Subway to Sally. The progressive and folk elements usually present in their music have been curtailed in favor of guitar-heavy arrangements with metal stylings. But songs like "Horo," "Minne," "Julia Und Die Räuber," and "Carrickfergus" still provide glimpses into the band's fondness for folk and traditional material and accompanying instruments. And their vocal harmonies and electric violin (Frau Schmitt) offer unique touches not found in most metal bands. Schrei! provides a pretty comprehensive view of their career as it offers an even sampling from their albums Hochzeit, Bannkreis, Foppt Den Dämon, and MCMXCV with a slight preference given to 1999's Hochzeit. Only Album 1994 is not adequately represented here but given Subway to Sally's incremental shift away from folk-oriented and English language music, and that's understandable.
