Paulinho Nogueira专辑介绍

by Alvaro Neder

The violão (Brazilian acoustic guitar) is an ancient instrument that was appropriated by Brazilian music in an indigenous, sophisticated, and truly national expression. Paulinho Nogueira is a longtime master of the instrument. Primarily a soloist, he also composes and is a correct singer. This CD reissue brings some of his great classics performed predominantly in the bossa nova style: "Menina," a wonderful hit of 1970, with lyrics of pungent tenderness; "Menino, Desce Daí," which was his first big nationwide hit in 1964; and other composers' works like the bossa nova classics "O Pato," "Garota de Ipanema," "Corcovado," "Desafinado," "Samba Em Prelúdio." All recordings date from 1961 to 1963, with the exception of "Menina," from 1970. Nogueira may be described as a "traditionalist" in the sense that his sound is profoundly rooted in the musical tradition of Brazil (based in Afro and sentimental values, the latter a heritage from the Portuguese), being somewhat impermeable to influences such as jazz or more modern erudite experimentations with harmony or melody.
