We were in a park
I could jump so far
Seems like Mama and Madonna
Were smoking pot out in the car
And this figure faded in
Near the dumpster at my old school
He said, "Ben, we both know you're asleep
I've been running through these fields
It's such a lovely place you've dreamed
Is it your imagination
It's been years since I've been on my feet"

Now it's Rocky's day
Send the soul on his way
The sun won't be coming out today

I recall, but I don't know who
Told me Rocky was a runner
Won a medal back in school
Now at Christmas Mama says
Who'll go up to Rocky's room
As we watched the sun go down
He thanked me for my dream
Said I know you think you are
But you're not completely free
The specter of departure
Makes a man completely free

Then he swirled
And he turned and walked away
He said over his shoulder
I'll be gone when you're awake ...
