As Ian Anderson, director and editor of Froots Magazine, once commented "Nidi D'Arac explore a crossover between the traditional musics of Southern Italy and "new musical tendencies" like dub reggae, rap and techno, the important thing here being that there are elements already present in the old that are sympathetically amplified by the new...there's definitely something good going on in Italy." fR180, June 1998-
The music by NIDI D’ARAC is pure pleasure of dance and sound, it’s an ongoing party, it’s emotional involvement, it’s spirituality. The power of this versatile ensemble is an immediate and almost physical way through, thanks also to the audacious attempt of mixing the traditional triplets rhythm of the tambourine of the Salento ‘pizzica’ used as a therapy for the bite of tarantula spider, with the chaotic electronic digital reality.
With their last album 'Salento senza tempo' Nidi d'Arac presents an unusual and completely acoustical album. It is a tribute to traditional Salento music with guitar, violin, accordion and tambourine in compositions inspired by a land rich in human, magical and suggestive images. 'The result is a more relaxed and expansive feel to their sound which shows due respect to the traditional sources and styles but their approach is far from purist. By taking a break from the electronic side of their music, Nidi d’Arac have found new inspirations and a different side to their sound and created a refreshing and invigorating album' -Michael Hingston, fROOTS Jan-Feb 2008
